At age 12 Edward Martinez, aka Viejo, developed his unique style of and love for art, and it keeps changing with time and location, always reflecting his surroundings. As a young boy, Viejo won several awards for his mosaic work and paintings growing up in Chicago. When moving to New Mexico, Viejo was inspired by the night sky and the solar system. Viejo attended the University of New Mexico and received his degree in Electrical Engineering and works for Sandia National Laboratories in the satellite program. From 1993 to 2009, Viejo lived in Los Angeles and started creating 3D luminous underwater seascapes, which were inspired by his scuba diving trips along the California coast. In 2009, Viejo moved back to New Mexico and his work began to included New Mexico landscapes and city murals. Viejo’s artwork now includes a small microprocessor programed to fashion different lighting techniques to create one of kind effects.
