Albuquerque Mini Maker Faire is organized by New Mexico New Makers a 501(C)3 non-profit. Our mission is to connect, inform and facilitate a Maker community in New Mexico and to help people discover the Maker in themselves. This base platform of support to our Maker community encourages STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) within our communities at home and in schools.
Basic Maker Demographics in the US: Over eight in ten (81%) are makers with a median age of 44. Participants also report a high median household income of $106,000 and nearly three-quarters (73%) own their home. Most are married or living as married with nearly four in ten reporting children under the age of 17 living in the household. Makers are clearly a well-educated group with 97% having attended or graduated from college; 80% say they have post-graduate education and over four in ten hold post-graduate degrees.
The rise in Mini Maker Faires
— smaller scale, independently produced, local events —
is where the story is.
A total of 131 Mini Maker Faires graced the globe in 2014, compared to just 56 in 2012 (just glance at the red in the graph below). “Communities are getting involved in charting their own future and celebrating making in so many ways that make sense in their own unique regions,” said Sherry Huss, vice president of Maker Media and co-founder of Maker Faire.
